New Things

We tried a new church yesterday. I have been a member of only two churches in my life, one for twenty years, and the one we just left three years. We did not leave because of a problem with the pastor, bad teaching, poor dogma, disagreement over doctrine, or problems over worship style. We left because it was too far from home. I will miss the friends we met and will lose touch with over time although we are committed to try and keep these relationships going. I think I grew more mature as a believer through this church.
We tried a newer church on Sunday that has only been around for around three years. It used to meet in a movie theater and now meets at the new Cherokee County Civic Center. It had a great band leading worship and a powerful message on sharing your faith. The lead pastor did not go to seminary and when he mentioned this during his message I admit it; I cringed a little. Then he shared the story of Paul. When Paul had his incredible conversion he immediately started preaching for Jesus. He did not go and pray about it. He just started preaching. If it was good enough for Paul, it is good enough for me. Which begs this question; why do we put requirements on people doing kingdom work?
Time will tell if this church is where God wants us. If He wants us there we will get plugged in and meet new friends, if not then I guess we will keep looking...
